During the Easter message, Pastor Bob had each of us take a small stone from a basket that was passed through the rows. He encouraged us to live a resurrected life in the light and love of Christ, to let Jesus roll away the stones that cover our eyes and hearts. Not intending for us to keep our stones, he asked us to thank the Lord that He's moved the rocks out of our way, and then he asked us to lay our stones down at the cross, giving our stones to the One who carries our burdens, who makes them light, and gives us life.
Funny thing: I was waiting for my friend sitting next to me to take her rock up. I had other plans for mine. We glanced at each other once without a word. Then she leaned over and whispered, "I'm going to keep mine to remind me of the things that stand in my way." Delighted I wasn't alone in my thought I told her, "I'm keeping mine too." But my plans were different. The rock I ended up with seemed perfect for an illustration that came to mind.
